Not even a week had passed since tying the knot, and both my husband and I were completely exhausted. After months of wedding preparations, emotional ceremonies, and an overwhelming amount of socialising, we were desperately craving some peace. The best gift we gave ourselves wasn’t something material, it was a seven-day honeymoon in Fiji.
This magical archipelago in the heart of the Pacific Ocean, about 12,000 km from India, gave us exactly what we needed — quiet, connection, and tropical bliss. Surrounded by sapphire-blue waters, palm-fringed beaches, and the most welcoming locals we've ever met, Fiji turned out to be the perfect honeymoon destination for Indian couples looking to truly unwind.
We have covered our trip to Fiji in 3 Chapters from the lens of travelling to Fiji from India, experiences to include in your itinerary, Fiji as one of the best honeymoon destinations, availability of vegetarian food in Fiji and exploring the local Fijian culture.

Is there a direct flight from India to Fiji?

If you’ve ever found yourself looking at a world map and wondering, “Where exactly is Fiji?”, you’re not alone. Fiji is a small island nation in the South Pacific, closer to Oceania than Asia, and situated between New Zealand and Hawaii. It’s remote — and that’s part of its charm.
There are no direct flights from India to Fiji, but the most convenient route is via Singapore. We took a late evening flight from Mumbai with a half day layover in Singapore and fell in love with this tiny speck on the world map, the moment we caught the first aerial glimpse of the archipelago. We knew we had landed somewhere special.
Fiji Airways operates on a codeshare with Singapore Airlines with a Singapore Airlines flight from Mumbai to Singapore and then a 10 hour long Fiji Airways flight from Singapore to Nadi.
Do Indians need a visa for Fiji?
One of the biggest perks of traveling to Fiji from India is that Indian passport holders get a free visa on arrival for short-term stays. This visa-friendly policy removes a big planning hurdle, especially when compared to the more tedious visa processes of Europe or the US.
Just carry:
A valid Indian passport
Proof of accommodation
Return ticket
Sufficient funds for the trip
That’s it and you're good to go!
Which Fiji airport should you fly into?
Fiji has two international airports — Nadi International Airport and Nausori Airport (Suva). We chose to fly into Nadi, as it’s much better connected internationally, especially for travelers coming from India.
Nadi is located on the western coast of Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu, and serves as the gateway to most of the Fijian resort islands, including the Mamanucas and Yasawas. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with shell garlands, warm smiles, and clean roads fringed with swaying palms, a postcard-worthy introduction to the island.
INR to Fijian Dollar or USD to Fijian Dollar
In August 2025, the exchange rate was approximately FJD 1 = INR 39. Like many travelers, we exchanged a small amount of currency at the airport, even though we knew it wasn't the most favourable rate. If you're looking to maximise value, carry USD and exchange it to FJD once in Fiji, you'll get a significantly better rate.
Pro tip: In small island villages or souvenir stalls, only Fijian Dollars are accepted, so make sure to have enough local currency on hand.
Fiji or Maldives as a honeymoon place?
If you are looking at a short break at an all inclusive resort with a relatively shorter flight from India, then Maldives is your best bet for an island honeymoon post your Indian wedding. Most likely you will spend around 4 to 5 nights at the same resort and indulge in a variety of water and beach activities.
If you are looking at a longer honeymoon which includes a long flight to access the more remote parts of the world and do some island hopping, some tropical sightseeing along with a relaxing resort honeymoon, then a honeymoon in Fiji from India is for you.
Is Fiji expensive for Indians?
Yes, Fiji is indeed expensive for Indians. Fiji flight tickets are the main killer and it is best to club your trip to Fiji with a trip to either Australia or New Zealand. The island resorts in Fiji are also expensive (though less expensive than the resorts by the same hospitality chain in the Maldives). The food also gets expensive and you do not have an option but to either go to the resort restaurant or carry your own ready to eat meals for at least one meal a day.
When to travel to Fiji and for how many days?

Fiji is a year-round tropical paradise, but if you're wondering about the best time to visit Fiji, it largely depends on the weather and the kind of holiday experience you're looking for.
Fiji has a tropical climate, with warm temperatures throughout the year.
However, its wet season runs from November to April, which also coincides with the official cyclone season in Fiji. During this time, you can expect high humidity, frequent rainfall, and occasional tropical storms. While we visited Fiji in December, we were fortunate to have sunny days, but experienced evening showers every night during our week-long stay. Unfortunately, this meant we had to cancel plans for a romantic beachfront dinner, as the rain typically arrived after sunset.
For the most reliable weather, the dry season in Fiji—from May to September—is considered the best time to travel. These months offer lower humidity, cooler temperatures, and minimal rainfall, making them perfect for outdoor activities like snorkeling, diving, island hopping, and beachside relaxation. Since Fiji is in the Southern Hemisphere, its seasons are opposite to those in the Northern Hemisphere.
A minimum of 5 nights to a maximum of 10 nights with 1-2 days on the mainland and the remaining days spent on island resorts with island hopping day trips is good enough to explore Fiji.
Last word: Is a trip to Fiji worth it from India?
A trip to the Fiji islands is definitely worth it, however, it is best clubbed with a trip to either Australia or New Zealand to get the best value out of the airfares from India. It is surely a destination for couples from India across age groups looking for an island honeymoon or celebrating a milestone anniversary. It may be a good family holiday destination for a family with kids from either Australia or New Zealand who can simply hop on a short flight to this tropical paradise.
